Types of Therapy

  • Individual therapy provides a one-on-one environment where people can work through various concerns. Whether you have a specific mental health need or want to achieve personal growth, people benefit from having a non-judgmental space to process and reflect.

Themes addressed through individual work can include:

    • Improving symptoms

    • Formulating an identity

    • Defining life purposes

    • Determining core values

    • Understanding one’s behaviors and emotions

  • Family relationships provide a basis for understanding how to connect with others and make sense of oneself and the world around us. Every family system has unique dynamics, which may, at times, seem like challenges. The goals of this therapy include:

    • Improving the understanding of other members

    • Creating secure attachments

    • Increasing effective communication

    • Learning ways to function cohesively

The structure of sessions may vary in who attends and what relationships are focused on in each session.

  • This category of therapy refers to services provided to clients from the ages of 4 to 17. In child and adolescent treatment, clients gain awareness of their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and learn how to regulate them. Techniques in therapy with children and adolescents may include playing, role-playing, talking, drawing, and gameplay. Parents typically seek counseling for their children for excessive worry/anxiety, anger, emotional dysregulation, low confidence, behavioral concerns, social skills, and to manage responses to change. The benefits of a child attending therapy will be noticeable in their functioning at home, school, and social environments.

  • Couples counseling works with intimate partners to improve their relationship, communication skills, and attachment. Areas addressed in couples counseling include partner roles and dynamics, beliefs and values, prioritizing time together, managing finances, raising children, sex and intimacy, and maintaining a strong bond despite external stressors. Reasons that couples seek counseling include the following:

    • Blended family challenges

    • Co-parenting disagreements or conflicts

    • Anger management

    • Anxiety and stress

    • Arguments, fighting, and disagreements

    • Troubles with communication

    • Different expectations or wants for the future

    • Future planning

    • Infidelity or loyalty issues

    • Life transitions

    • Relationship building and bonding

    • Conflicting values or beliefs

    • Disagreements over responsibilities.

  • Parent coaching is a systemic style of counseling designed to help improve parenting skills, confidence, and the ability to use mindful, intentional, and effective parenting strategies.

While there is no handbook on being the best parent possible, you don’t have to do it alone. Parent coaching involves psychoeducation about mental health, co-regulation, and child development. Parents receive customized feedback and interventions to help guide their children’s behaviors while managing their own emotions.

In these sessions, parents process their attachment patterns with caregivers and can understand how it impacts their current parenting capabilities.
